diy lock box size: how do i choose?
That depends on what you plan on putting in it. It needs to have a hinged lid in order for it to work.
Ask for donations of a shoe box with a hinged lid similar to this one. These are perfect if you have a small budget to work with.

I like to use these A4 file boxes for my lock boxes. My “I escaped” coloring sheets fit perfectly in them.
locks for a diy lock box
These 4-letter word locks are my favorite. My escape games have a code word students must discover in order to “escape.”
How to make the box lockable
STEP 1:
Drill holes near where the lid opens. Drill straight through from top to bottom as shown in the picture.
Do this again about 2 inches over.
You’ll have two holes on the top and two on the bottom that are lined up.

STEP 2:
Insert a zip tie through the top two holes, leaving it loose and moveable.
Repeat this step for the bottom.

STEP 3:
Close the box, pull the two zip ties together and attach the lock. Students unlock and remove the lock to open the box.
